Turner Warren Lecture on Life and Faith 2022

Reverend Kaye Edwards

About Reverend Kaye Edwards

From 1982 to 1996, Reverends David and Kaye Edwards served as the ministers of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). David was our Senior Minister, and Kaye joined the staff as Associate Minister several years into the Edwards’ time here.

Those were years of expansion for First Christian, particularly in the area of inclusivity as it found expression in the development of our Open and Affirming policy. And not simply a policy, but the flowering of a broad understanding of how the Kingdom of God works. The Kingdom includes children. The Kingdom includes persons of all backgrounds and races, persons from all economic strata, and it includes and welcomes persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Kaye and David Edwards helped First Christian develop this understanding. Their incredible
ministry continues to bear Kingdom fruit to this day.

As we welcome Kaye Edwards as our Turner-Warren speaker this year, we remember that she comes to us in 2022 as a widow. Since David’s death in 2019, Kaye has continued their joint ministry of justice, peace, and Kingdom-building. Kaye’s recent activities, including the publishing of David’s book, entitled, What Belongs to God: Reflections on Peacemaking by a Conscientious Objector, have reflected her holy habits of “self-examination and community action,” as those habits are described in her study material for David’s book. Copies of this book will be available here at church on Turner-Warren Lecture Sunday.

Kaye’s lecture will reveal her thoughts on the current topic of the intersection of science and spirituality, and its relevancy to the ways in which we are all one people in God.
