Outreach Grants
To encourage members to pursue those ministries to which they
feel called, the outreach committee has established ministry
grants of up to $1000 to help support those who have a vision
for ministry but no funds to support it. Contact Tom Seaman,
384-3810.
Meals on Wheels
First Christian Church is responsible for driving one week in
January and July. This involves driving to 15-20 homes to
deliver prepared meals to indigent or disabled people. To
volunteer call Lorraine Flint, 384-3696.
Daily Bread
Every fifth Saturday, FCC members provide the hands to cook and
serve about 100 meals to hungry people in Lynchburg. Our
upcoming dates to serve are September 30, December 30, March 31,
June 30. To volunteer call Debbie Moss, 239-3201.
Rivermont Area Food Pantry
In cooperation with eight nearby churches, FCC helps in
collecting and distributing food to those in need. We are
assigned six weeks during the year to be “on call” to fill food
requests. To volunteer call Virginia Weber, 239-8260, or
Lorraine Flint, 384-3693
Gateway Shelter for Men
The first Monday of each month finds FCC volunteers in the
kitchen of the Gateway preparing and serving a nutritious meal
to about 25 residents and staff of this men’s shelter. It’s fun,
rewarding, and you leave feeling better than when you arrived.
To volunteer, call your parish Elder or the church office,
384-8626.
Mission Teams
Hurricane Katrina left devastation behind that will take years
to repair. Two missions trips from FCC to the Gulf Coast in 2006
confirmed the magnitude of the destruction and our resolve to
continue in our efforts to help rebuild. Watch the newsletter
for details about the 2007 trip.
Red Cross Training
You can be a part of a disaster relief team in Lynchburg if you
are 15+ years old and are willing to attend training classes.
You, along with the Red Cross, would then discern where you are
best qualified to serve and be assigned to a team. To volunteer
call Lynne Salvaggio, 384-1494.

Stewardship
Stewardship is woven into the very fabric of our faith at FCC.
We approach it as an opportunity for expressing our gratitude
for God’s blessings rather than an obligation to be fulfilled.
Below are several opportunities for sharing our monetary
abundance.
Endowment Fund
The primary purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide a
vehicle for members and friends of FCC to make a lasting legacy
to the witness and ministry of Jesus Christ and to serve human
needs in our local and global community. Gifts are invested and
managed through mutual funds by the Christian Church Foundation
and, if not designated by the donor, earnings are distributed
annually as follows: 50% to Outreach Ministry, 30% to Capital
Improvements, 20% to be used at the discretion of the General
Board.
Annual Stewardship Commitment
Each year we have the opportunity to pledge our gifts to the
church for the general budget which underwrites the ministry of
the church. We take seriously our tithe and commit 12.5% of our
budget each year to local and world outreach.
Memorials Fund
Gifts given in memory of friends and loved ones are used as
designated by the donor. Undesignated gifts are used to further
the ministry of the church as needs arise. Gifts have been used
to purchase such things as rocking chairs for the back of the
sanctuary, high chairs and booster seats for the fellowship
hall, and the Labyrinth.
Mustard Seed
The Mustard Seed Fund was established to make funds available to
people both within and outside the church who have special needs
which are not being met through other means. It is a way of
directly, but discreetly, helping others in our community.
