Spiritual Growth through Nurture and Fellowship

Community is that place where individualism falls away and we receive abundant life from the care and support we give to and receive from each other. At First Christian Church, we are constantly striving to build close community, melting diverse individuals into unity in Christ, all the while inviting others to join us on the way. Listed below you will find a diverse list of opportunities for spiritual growth through fellowship and nurture.

Hearthside Dinner Groups

A means of developing Christian community, these groups of 6-8, which will form in September, are a wonderful way to get to know others at First Christian Church. Hearthsides gather approximately 6 times over the year in different homes. Contact Linda Cox, 386-0021.

Hi-Timers

An active group of folks who are retired but far from retiring. They meet once a month for a meal, a program, or a trip out of town. Contact Nita Floe Hempfling, 239-8118.

Fellowship Coffee Time

10:30-10:50 each Sunday morning in the fellowship hall offers a time to visit, connect, and snack on wonderful goodies. Contact Chery Scruggs, 534-0475.

Parish Groups

In order to facilitate communication and to better minister to each other, the congregation is grouped into 12 parishes based roughly upon neighborhood location. Each group is assigned an elder who maintains contact with the parish members through cards, phone calls or visits. While not intended to be a social group, some parishes do arrange social activities and each parish has an opportunity to serve dinner as a group at the Gateway shelter once a year.

Movie Talk

“40 thumbs up!” “Lively!” “Fun!” “Thoughtful!” “Saw movies I might otherwise have missed…” After viewing the movie on their own, this group gathers monthly for discussion, sharing their insights and reflections. New folks are always welcome.

Visiting Team

Meeting the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11:15, this group gathers to support and encourage one another in its ministry of visiting the sick and homebound in the congregation. Contact Sandy McCann, 384-8778

Breaking Bread Together

Held between the 8:30 and 11:00 Easter services, this pot–luck brunch allows us to break bread together in celebration of our risen Lord.

· Last Splash Summer Picnic

The Sunday evening before school begins finds us enjoying the last bit of summer with a picnic and swimming at Camp Kum Ba Yah.
